AYUSH Hospital Subsidy Scheme: Interest Subsidy, Eligibility, Financial Assistance & AYUSH Super Specialty Hospital Scheme

Introduction: AYUSH Hospital Subsidy Scheme

India’s healthcare industry is evolving rapidly, and the AYUSH sector is becoming an important contributor to preventive healthcare, wellness, and medical tourism. As demand for Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, Sowa-Rigpa, and Homeopathy services continues to grow, the Government of India has introduced several initiatives to strengthen healthcare infrastructure across the country.

One such initiative is the AYUSH Hospital Subsidy Scheme, launched under the Champion Services Sector Scheme for Medical Value Travel. The scheme aims to encourage private investment in establishing world-class AYUSH Super Specialty Hospitals and Day Care Centres while promoting India’s traditional systems of medicine at the global level. Unlike many infrastructure schemes that offer capital grants, this scheme provides interest subsidy on eligible loans used for hospital construction, equipment, and machinery.

For hospitals, healthcare entrepreneurs, trusts, companies, MSMEs, and investors planning to establish new AYUSH healthcare facilities, this initiative can significantly reduce financing costs while supporting long-term business growth.

What is the AYUSH Hospital Subsidy Scheme?

The AYUSH Hospital Subsidy Scheme is a Central Sector Scheme introduced by the Ministry of AYUSH to promote the establishment of modern AYUSH Super Specialty Hospitals and Day Care Centres across India.

The primary objective is not only to strengthen healthcare infrastructure but also to position India as a global destination for Medical Value Travel by encouraging private investment in AYUSH-based healthcare services. The scheme supports Greenfield projects and offers interest subsidy on eligible institutional loans for approved hospital projects.

Unlike conventional hospital financing, this initiative focuses on reducing the financial burden during the initial years of project implementation, thereby encouraging more private healthcare providers to invest in AYUSH infrastructure.

Types of Projects Covered Under the Scheme

The AYUSH Hospital Subsidy Scheme supports three categories of healthcare infrastructure.

1. 50-Bedded AYUSH Super Specialty Hospital

This category is designed for large-scale healthcare facilities capable of serving domestic as well as international patients. Such hospitals typically require higher investment and comprehensive infrastructure.

2. 10-Bedded AYUSH Hospital

Small and medium healthcare providers can establish modern AYUSH hospitals under this category while benefiting from interest subsidy on eligible loans.

3. AYUSH Day Care Centre Scheme

The scheme also supports dedicated AYUSH Day Care Centres offering specialized treatment without requiring long-term patient admission. This option is particularly suitable for investors planning focused therapy or wellness facilities.

Financial Incentives under the AYUSH Hospital Subsidy Scheme

One of the most attractive features of the AYUSH Hospital Subsidy Scheme is its structured interest subsidy support for eligible Greenfield AYUSH healthcare projects. Unlike many government schemes that provide capital grants, this initiative reduces the financing cost by reimbursing a portion of the interest payable on eligible institutional loans.

Funding Mechanism

The AYUSH Hospital Subsidy Scheme provides financial assistance in the form of an interest subsidy on loans obtained through identified Public Sector Banks (PSBs). The Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) acts as the nodal agency to facilitate eligible loans for establishing AYUSH Super Specialty Hospitals and Day Care Centres. The interest subsidy is available for a maximum period of five years and is released in a phased manner based on the year in which the project is sanctioned.

Why Professional Consultancy Matters
